After a busy morning hitting all of the outlet-ish stores around Carmel Mountain Ranch (e.g. Nordstrom Rack, Ross, Saks Off Fifth…the list of purveyors of cheap designer swag continues to grow), we were looking for a place to grab some cheap/quick/delicious lunch. It’s not always easy to find a place that provides all three, but as we were on our way to Rubio’s, we walked past Fish District Eatery, a fast-casual seafood spot. We asked a woman sitting outside what she thought, and her description was quite accurate, “it’s delicious, I could eat here every day!” Needless to say, our curiosity was peaked and so we had to give it a shot.
I ordered one seared ahi taco (one of their many catches of the day), one battered shrimp taco, and a cup of clam chowder. All of my lunch was delicious, particularly the ahi and the clam chowder. The tacos are big, so big that I would have been fine with just two and no soup, but the chowder was so good I couldn’t not finish it. Jen ordered the seared ahi bowl, which she reports was also delectable, though it is quite a big portion with rice and veggies included. And how could I forget to mention, they serve beer and wine! And a good selection of local beers, too. We each got the St. Archer Blonde, which was a smooth, light lager that went great with the fish on a hot day. We both left very full, and very happy with our meal.
We are definitely planning to return, most likely for their happy hour, which is EVERY DAY from 2-5pm, offering 1/2 price tacos and beer. Bottom line, this is a spot with a lot of delicious and modestly priced seafood options and a solid selection of local beers.
Rating: 4 tacos (good quality, great value).
